You have the skills; make sure that you can communicate them.

Whether you are searching for new challenges, up for a promotion, or are forced to find a new position, making a positive impression during the interview is essential.

You want to be ready.

And while your experiences and connections can get your foot in the door to the next opportunity, your communication skills will determine whether you get the job.

But what if your job and the interview require English?

Are you ready? Do you know how to prepare?

Many people spend time practicing the wrong things before job interviews, and because of it, they become so nervous that their minds go blank.

Forgetting words will be even more likely if you haven’t practiced English in a long time. Your poor communication skills will be a barrier if you do nothing.

Yet, you know that you can do well if you prepare well.

You don't want to be asked to repeat yourself. You don't want to take too long to find the words you need to express yourself. And you don't want to worry that you are saying the wrong thing.

But without the right preparation, your ideas will be stuck in your mind, refusing to turn into English words.

You'll rub your forehead, willing the words to come to mind--they are in there! After all, you understand most everything you read...

So, what can you do to prepare well for your interview?

You know that having a list of potential interview questions is not enough.

And with so little time to prepare for the interview, you need to know what to prioritize so that you have both the answers AND the clear language to express them.

You want to learn techniques that are immediately relevant and practical.

And you need personalized attention and community camaraderie to see it through.

But building your English skills while preparing for your interview is a LOT. Where do you begin? Is it even possible to do both at once?

Yes, it is.

That's where Confident English Job Interview Preparation comes in.

This 7-module course walks you through a process that guarantees that you will be well prepared to speak.

The process, tools and resources will bring order and organization to the chaos.

Each part of this process is broken into small, manageable steps that you can do between other tasks in your busy schedule.

Through short videos explaining the how-tos, tips, and tricks for preparing to interview in English, each step is clear.

After you've gone through the entire course, it's easy to go back and watch whichever short videos you need for a topic refresher as you prepare for another interview.

This is a focused, experiential course designed to enhance intermediate and advanced-level English speakers’ abilities to excel in job interviews while addressing your own specific job interview preparation needs.

The course utilizes a systematic approach to vocabulary building in the context of the job description, improving pronunciation and speaking techniques, and overcoming common mindset blocks to accelerate your learning and prepare you for upcoming interviews.

Follow the process for your successful job interview:

Here's how Isabel landed her job!

"I received an interview proposal from an international NGO, and I decided to take the E4S Job Interview prep course. This has been one of the cleverest decisions that I have made in the last few years. In the past, I had had interviews in English and the results were not always the best. The course helped me to identify the main concepts and words that I would need in the meeting and to focus on them. Additionally, I practiced in real time answering questions so Dr. Wallace could give me feedback about my responses with the STAR methodology, and the 4-step process for effective answers. She also told how to improve my pronunciation. The most impactful thing for me was that she helped me with were my physical expressions because it allowed me to have better eye contact in front of the camera and to connect with the interviewers as in a normal conversation. Without a doubt, the course helped me to improve my performance. I landed the job! I feel happy and confident that I can increase my opportunities in the international arena by applying what I learned with Dr. Lara Wallace. You will see results if you believe in the process and you believe in yourself!"

About the Instructor

Dr. Lara Wallace has the knowledge and nearly 2 decades of experience to help you level up.

The global language of sustainability is English.

But what happens when people working in multinational organizations are unprepared to communicate?

There are many new jobs in sustainability-related industries, both remote positions and in multinational companies and organizations. These are the people who are bringing about the badly needed green transition. It’s time for people from all over the world to amplify their voices, influence, and income through these opportunities to advance climate solutions, protect the environment, and repair the soil.

What do these jobs have in common? English. It is the most broadly spoken language among multinational organizations in the sustainability sector. Without strong speaking skills and the willingness to use them, your speaking opportunities will be limited.

That's why Dr. Lara Wallace began English for Sustainability in 2020--to help people communicate more effectively and confidently. Through her content, courses, and coaching, she has helped her clients perform confidently in presentations, make themselves understood when collaborating on multinational teams, earn promotions, and more.

With over 5 years of focusing on sustainability professionals and enthusiasts and nearly 20 years of experience teaching graduate students at the university level to communicate effectively for a variety of audiences through speaking, presenting, and technical writing, her expertise in pronunciation pedagogy allows her to pinpoint and address communication barriers that clients can overcome by following a systematic approach that is immediately applicable to doing well in your job interview.

Lara is dedicated to empowering you to speak up for yourself, your community, and the planet.

With Confident English Job Preparation, you have the process and preparation to make your next career move.

Here's what Ana thinks about the course:

I was surprised by the depth and breadth of the course, particularly, how to prepare and study for the interviews. The tools to track and organize everything from interview dates to the company’s keywords and potential questions were very helpful. The structure of the spreadsheets in the course helped me feel confident presenting myself during interviews. Having the entire course available allowed me to work at my own pace and choose whichever videos I needed to watch on my own time. The short instructional videos are on specific topics, so it’s easy for you to pick and choose what you need to watch and when. I practiced some of my answers in the private WhatsApp group and got feedback from Lara. I particularly appreciated Lara’s feedback on my pronunciation and the tips for structuring answers rather than memorizing a script. I took the course over 2 weeks' time and used what I learned in five interviews. In the end, I landed a job!

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Confident English Job Interview Preparation different from other courses or programs?

This course prepares you from the job description through the day of the interview, rather than focusing on giving you a list of questions or some random vocabulary words that you can drop into your answers. While it is designed for people who grew up speaking other languages, it is just as useful to "native speakers." With this course, you also have access to our private WhatsApp community for your questions, practice opportunities, and feedback. Here's how one member of the community describes it: “First aid! Whenever we have a question, we quickly drop it in WhatsApp and get a response from Lara or someone else.”

Can I pay in two or three installments instead of all at once?

Yes, you can do that. Please contact Lara to set that up by sending an email to lara@english4sustainability.com with "Job Interview Course Payment Plan Question" in the subject line.

How will this course help me speak more confidently in my job interviews?

Through a combination of process, preparation, and practice, you will prepare for each job interview in turn, becoming comfortable with the language used and how to express yourself.

Watch the instructional recordings and use the resources. Fill in the spreadsheet with your answers to get organized and learn what to say.

Participate actively in the WhatsApp group for practice, feedback, and to get answers to your questions.

The better effort you put in, the faster you will see results. This is how you grow your confidence with speaking.

Can you guarantee that I will get the job by following the process?

While communication is crucial, whether you are offered the position depends on variables out of English for Sustainability's control. Some of them include: how qualified you are, how truthfully and effectively you represented yourself and your skills, the other applicants and their qualifications, applicants' connections to the interviewers, funding for and availability of the position, legislation that may affect the position, leadership in the organization, discrimination, and more. This course will give you your best chance at effective communication, but cannot guarantee that you will land the job.

I'm busy--can I actually get the work done?

Only you can answer this question, but we've set this course up so that you can work in small steps and with your own schedule. The lessons are available 24/7 and you will get answers to any questions in the WhatsApp group by the next business day. This flexibility and ability to access content, and get answers and feedback is what helps busy people like you to improve their English and speak confidently in interviews.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

No, there is not. But if you do the work like Isabel, Ana, and several others have, you will feel much better going into your interviews. Plus, you have lifetime access to the video lessons.

What if I’m shy or nervous about speaking in English?

It is normal and natural to be shy when speaking another language! In other words, you are not alone.

This course is designed to help you prepare effectively--both what you will say and your mindset--so that even if you are shy and nervous, you can still have your say during the interview.

And if you're a perfectionist, know that it is better to speak and make mistakes than to miss out on practice.

The best way to overcome shyness is by practicing. As you grow your vocabulary, it will get easier.

Just remember–practice makes fluent. Everything gets easier with practice and experience–especially speaking.

Our WhatsApp community knows that Lara celebrates mistakes--mistakes are learning opportunities. So go ahead! Make them. We will thank you.

Can I request help with specific pronunciation problems I have?

Yes! Not only can you, but you should. Just make your request in our WhatsApp community.

How does the WhatsApp community work, and how active is it?

The WhatsApp group is where you find support so that you can get answers to your questions, practice, and get feedback. It’s also for sharing your successes in your language learning and interviews!

When you sign up for this course, you will find the link to access our WhatsApp group in the course website. Look for an "Access Granted" email with your log in details (check your spam folder if you haven't received it within 10 minutes of purchasing your membership). Once you login, you will find directions for logging in in the Onboarding section.

Make sure you read the directions carefully for our community rules and setting your notifications.

You can post whenever you want. Lara will reply the next business day (usually much sooner than that). HUB members reply when they want and to what they want.

At the time of writing this answer, there are usually about 2 or 3 HUB queries or comments a day.

Who is this course for?

This course is for people who have already learned the basics--basic vocabulary, grammar, listening, and pronunciation. It's primarily for intermediate and advanced speakers who want to focus on their speaking and pronunciation skills. "Native" English speakers and native-like English speakers alike can benefit from the course as well, although they likely can skip module Module 2 (Pronounce Key Words Clearly). This course is designed to help you prepare for a job interview where you must communicate in English. It's for self-starters--people who are not afraid to ask for what they want and to ask questions. It's for people willing to do the work--to practice, to participate in the WhatsApp group. It's for people who understand that the only way to build skills is through learning, practice, and feedback. The mission of English for Sustainability is to amplify the voices of people working or advocating for climate solutions. While it is not necessary to apply for or to be studying or employed in a sustainability-related job, we hope that you at least try to live lightly on the planet in your way.

What are the requirements for taking this course?

This self-paced course is primarily for active or passive job seekers--people who want to be prepared for upcoming interviews. You can take the course before you have an interview to learn the process, or wait until you have an interview scheduled and use the course to prepare for it. To access the videos, you need a mobile device or computer and a strong wi-fi connection. To join the community, you will need the WhatsApp app.

Can I get personalized feedback on my speaking skills?

There are opportunities to get feedback on your speaking skills in the WhatsApp community.

Knowing what you do well and where you need to improve is essential to boosting your speaking skills.

Lara will give feedback related to the task at hand, and will make corrections when there is a danger of misunderstanding what you said. Otherwise, she will not correct you since making mistakes is part of the process of gaining fluency (when people are corrected too often and for tiny details, it can be very discouraging, having the opposite effect of impeding fluency). Giving and receiving feedback is a balancing act, and what is helpful varies from person to person. For in-depth feedback, you may book a consultation (purchased separately).

What does this course include?

Six hours hours of instructional videos walking you through the job interview preparation process, the Application Tracker, the Job Description Organizer, the Interviewer Fact Sheet, the Interview Questions List Organizer, personalized word list templates for your pronunciation, vocab, and grammar, the Tools & Resources created and curated to boost your abilities, a virtual mock job interview that you must schedule within 2 months of purchasing the course, and two months of membership to the HUB (current HUB members get a different deal).

What if I am already an E4S HUB member?

HUB members will not get 2 free months in the HUB. Instead, HUB members will get a 60-minute consultation with Lara for in-depth practice and feedback on any area they wish--Dr. Wallace can suggest which areas need the most attention. Please email her to arrange this.

How is this course different from what I can access in the HUB?

HUB members can access some key lessons that will help to prepare for the job interview. However, to truly be prepared and to talk confidently and effectively in the interview--especially if your English level is on the lower side--you will need much more. This course walks you through a process to thoroughly prepare for your interviews in such a way that you will have the vocabulary you need, and the ability to talk about why you are a good fit. This course also teaches you a mindset component to help you stay calm and focused, and provides you with resources to organize your preparation, and easily review materials the day of the interview. You'll be much more solid than ever.
